Philosophy
Our philosophy emphasises a holistic approach to personal growth and development.
The three equal sides of the YMCA triangle demonstrate our belief in people's rounded, holistic development.
We believe that individuals become more 'whole' if they are given chances to grow in body, mind and spirit.
This gives the YMCA one of its distinctive qualities: the equal worth, potential and opportunities for the growth of staff, volunteers, residents, users and members.

Through Annual Appraisal and monitoring, we ensure that the training and development needs of staff are met, enabling them to effectively carry out their duties. Career progression is also available within the YMCA structure and is actively encouraged.
To the YMCA Movement

Liverpool YMCA is respected throughout the local, national and international movement for our innovative and purpose driven work and the professional standards and values that we apply to supporting vulnerable people and excluded individuals.
We actively support and promote the strategic plan of the YMCA World Alliance (Challenge 21), through our commitment to raising awareness of global issues at a local level.
We are also an active supporter of Y Care International which is the international fundraising and development arm of the YMCA Movement. Together, our residents and staff deliver local fundraising initiatives and participate in Y Care training programmes.
In addition, we have a long - standing relationship with Mullankina Vilai in the Kanyakumari District of Southern India, providing practical and financial support.
More recently through a member of staff, Liverpool YMCA has established links with Gambia YMCA and are funding ongoing training in bee - keeping, honey production, its preservation and marketing to enhance sustainable livelihoods and income generation for young people in Basse in the Upper River Region of The Gambia.
To Christian and Spiritual Development
Liverpool YMCA endeavours to ensure that the effort invested in our purpose is matched with equal effort in the development of our culture.
Working within the mind-set of God given potential, means that commitment to personal and spiritual development for staff and volunteers is essential. Opportunities for renewal and transformation characterise our staff development policies.
The Christian element is a unique aspect of our work that is integrated into our standards and values and is reflected in all that we do.
We aim to create a safe, caring and supportive environment and are committed to the holistic approach of developing Body, Mind and Spirit.
