Donation to Claire House Childrens Hospice
Staff of Liverpool YMCA raise money to support the childrens hospice "Claire House" on the Wirral. The money raised was then matched by the Board of the YMCA.
A member of staff at the YMCA who has personal connections with Claire House Childrens
Hospice and is very greatful of the help and support both he and his family receive.
Whilst visiting on one occasion he overheard staff mentioning that televisions were breaking down, it also became obvious after a social evening that funds were very restricted as Claire House is only funded by donations.
On his return to work and after discussions with other members of staff, the group decided, that to raise funds to help replace the failing televisions, they would carry out a sponsered walk up Mount Snowdon in the Snowdonian National Park, Gwynedd, North Wales.
The group met up at Liverpool YMCA at 7.30am and travelled by mini-bus arriving at the Pen-y-pas carpark at approximately 9.30.
On arrival, the carpark was packed and the attendant wouldn't allow the bus to park but allowed them to unload, instructing the driver to find further parking up the valley. Due to the rush a member of the party left her backpack on the bus by mistake, only to watch the bus and her backpack heading off up the road to find alternative parking.
As a result of the delay caused by not being able to park were the group was dropped off, having to wait for the driver to return and the missing backpack the group decided to split into two smaller teams, allowing some members to begin walking straight away.
The first team set off using the Pyg Track to ascend Snowdon whilst the second team including the driver and the missing backpack took the Miners Track with all members meeting up on the summit.

After lunch and a much needed rest the joint party descended Snowdon via the 5 mile Llanberis path which roughly follows the route of the Llanberis railway.
Once all monies were collected and the Board of Managment matched what was raised, a number of the party visited Claire House and presented them with a cheque for £2245.60.
Claire House have since informed the YMCA that the money raised has enabled them to purchase 10 televisions with DVD's for the children.
