Introduction

The Gambia YMCA was registered as a non - profit organisation on the 18th June 1979 and was headquartered in a rented premises in Bamjul. It later moved to its own headquarters in Kanifin

Presently it has a vibrant membership base that is characterised by a well trained calibre of people who ascribe to the ideals, mission and vision of the YMCA.

  The wide range of programs and services offered to its clients include: -

 

                                Youth Leadership Training

 

                                Vocational Training

 

                                Computer Training

 

                                Sports and Recreation

 

                                Inter - Faith Dialogue

 

                                Hostel

 

Its programs also include developing already existing branches and establishing new ones, working closely and collaborating with rural communities, to bring about development and self - development.

 The Gambia YMCA specifically offers guidance and counselling services. It supports and helps to prevent the ever alarming rates of street children, abandoned babies, child labour, child prostitution, HIV/AIDS infections, substance and drug abuse, ill effects of tourism, ill effects of broken homes and rehabilitation of refugees and displaced persons.
